Following the high-level seminar in Doha, “Gulf, Nordic and Europe – the New Strategic Partnership for Human Capital and Digital-Driven Future Economies,” Ylva Johansson shared her perspective on EU–Gulf relations and Sweden’s long-standing ties with Qatar 🇶🇦🤝🇪🇺🇸🇪

She emphasised that diverse perspectives can enrich dialogue, and highlighted education, research, and people-to-people exchange as areas where cooperation can grow💡

With a strong foundation already in place, she also noted that trade and business ties are well established and can be deepened further through continued engagement and long-term partnership.

During DIMDEX, the Embassy engaged in discussions with @saab, and Qatar’s defence and security leadership 🇸🇪🇶🇦

We were honoured to have met H.E. Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs; Major General Khaled Al Ghanim, Commander of the Qatar Emiri Air Force; and Major General Mohammed Al Mannai, Head of the National Security Shield. The discussions focused on strategic cooperation, capability development and the role of innovation in addressing long-term security priorities.

The concluding dinner brought together key figures from Qatar’s security, defence and innovation ecosystem, allowing the dialogue to continue in a more informal setting.

Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, @dimdexqatar offered valuable insights into the regional security and defence landscape.

Together with representatives from Sweden’s Ministry of Defence, we were pleased to engage with @saab, baesystems, and @marellboats, highlighting Sweden’s capabilities in advanced defence technologies.

The programme also included a visit to Al Udeid Air Base @aludeidairbase, underscoring the importance of continued security dialogue and close regional cooperation.

On 19 January, I was proud to attend the official visit of Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, to Stockholm, as well as his meetings with Swedish counterparts.

The visit included discussions with Prime Minister HE Ulf Kristersson, Minister for Foreign Affairs HE Maria Malmer Stenergard, and Minister for Defence HE Pål Jonson, focusing on strengthening Sweden–Qatar relations, expanding trade cooperation and advancing dialogue on conflict mediation, as well as regional and global issues.

The programme also included a visit to the Swedish Parliament, where the delegation was received by Speaker HE Andreas Norlén, reflecting the breadth and depth of Sweden–Qatar engagement.

Sweden and Qatar share a strong and growing partnership, built on close political dialogue and an active exchange of high-level visits. 🇸🇪🤝🇶🇦

 Swedish passports issued by the Swedish Police or other Swedish passport authorities can now be sent directly to the Embassy of Sweden in Doha for collection, instead of the Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

Please note this change when applying for a new passport and ensure that you request passport collection in Doha.

Qatar National Library, one of my favourite places, and a space for reflection.

As the year comes to an end, I want to take a moment to reflect on what we have achieved together.

This year was defined by exchange and co-creation. Building on the momentum of the historic State Visit of His Highness the Emir to Sweden, we strengthened cooperation across innovation, defence, healthcare, and education, always grounded in trust.

We launched PlatformSweden.com, our new digital initiative for enhancing dialogue and partnerships between Sweden and Qatar. We welcomed high-level visits in both directions. And together, we turned shared values into action, from HRH Queen Silvia’s visit, highlighting youth mental health, to expanded collaboration on inclusive development and sustainable growth.

Each step forward has reinforced a relationship rooted in dialogue, guided by purpose and shaped by shared ambition.

Attended this morning’s National Day parade on the Doha Corniche in the presence of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and alongside diplomatic colleagues and other dignitaries.

The programme featured military and security formations, ceremonial units and armoured vehicles, and highlighted national unity and preparedness, as well as the strong bond between Qatar’s leadership and its people.

Today we celebrate Nobel Day!🇸🇪

Sweden is proud to host the annual Nobel Prize award ceremony and banquet on 10 December in Stockholm. The events celebrate the 2025 Nobel Prize laureates for their outstanding achievements in science, literature and peace.

The Nobel Prize was instituted by Swedish entrepreneur and inventor Alfred Nobel to highlight the importance of culture and science to humanity. Like Nobel, Sweden celebrates knowledge and creativity.

When science and humanity converge! Attended this morning’s opening of the 11th Precision Medicine and Future of Genomics Summit 2025, held in the presence of H.H. Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al Thani and H.E. Mansoor bin Ebrahim bin Saad Al Mahmoud, Minister of Public Health, with opening remarks delivered by Dr Khalid Fakhro, Chief Research Officer and Chair of the Precision Medicine Program at Sidra Medicine 🔬.

The inaugural panel featured Julia Vitarello, founder and CEO of Mila’s Miracle Foundation. Julia shared the moving and tragic story of her daughter Mila, the first patient in the world to receive a fully personalised treatment for a rare genetic disease. Mila’s legacy is now driving new pathways in personalised medicine for children facing rare conditions.

We were joined at the PMGF Summit by two Swedish companies contributing to key advances in the field.
Mavatar, represented by CEO Johan Juhlin, CTO Fredrik Barrenäs and Ulrika Nyberg, advances AI driven biomedical insights that support personalised and predictive care.

We are happy to share a ’sneak peek’ into this weekend’s visit to Al Khalaf Farm. Agrico is the industry leader when it comes to innovative & sustainable agriculture🌿☀️.

We explored Agrico’s advanced hydroponic greenhouses and experienced first-hand how locally grown produce is delivered fresh within 24 hours — a key contribution to Qatar’s food-security goals. Agrico’s impressive systems chime well with Swedish priorities such as societal resilience, sustainability, and innovative use of scarce resources.

It was a day of learning, connection, and inspiration — time well spent with colleagues and families, enjoying the super hospitality of Chairman Mr Ahmed Al-Khalaf and the Agrico team. 🌾💚.

Today we mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

One in three women worldwide is subjected to violence in her lifetime - most often by someone she knows. This is the ultimate consequence of gender inequality. Today, we attended the grand opening of Mobile World Congress Doha 2025 - the first-ever edition hosted in the Middle East and Qatar. 🌟

Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, Qatari Minister of Communications and Information Technology, GSMA CEO John Hoffman and Vivek Badrinath, Director General of GSMA.

The civil war in Sudan has created the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with famine spreading and more than 30 million people in urgent need of assistance.

Sweden remains one of the largest donors to Sudan, and is now providing an additional SEK 100 million through the UN World Food Programme (@worldfoodprogramme ) and the UN Refugee Agency (@refugees ) to support food security, protect civilians, and provide shelter for displaced people.

Qatar has similarly taken a leading role in supporting relief efforts in Sudan, delivering assistance through the Qatar Fund For Development and Qatar Charity.

Both Sweden and Qatar recognise the importance of sustained international cooperation to ease the suffering of civilians and strengthen humanitarian response.

One of the most pressing issues of our time: combating organised crime and terrorism. Honoured to have attended the @unodc_hq regional workshop on counter-terrorism and organised crime, held in Doha and funded by the Swedish Government. 🤝

Sweden was represented by Mr. Christer Brännerud, Superintendent at the National Operations Department of the Swedish Police, who shared Sweden’s experience in tackling transnational organised crime and illicit drug trafficking. 🚔

Our message is clear: organised crime and terrorism know no borders, and therefore strong international cooperation is essential to protect our societies and prevent safe havens for criminal networks.
